The Alexis de Tocqueville Society
The prestigious Alexis de Tocqueville Society is a national, philanthropic society honoring individuals who annually give $10,000
or more to United Way.
Tocqueville was a French citizen sent to America in 1830 by his government to study the "great experiment of democracy." Tocqueville
was in awe of Americans' concern for the greater well-being of all citizens. He applauded the goodwill of Americans in his
two-volume work, Democracy in America.
In the spirit of Tocqueville's work, United Ways across the country honor their most elite supporters in his name. United Way of
Camden County recognizes this extraordinary level of community commitment with deep gratitude and sincere appreciation.
United Way of Camden County is proud to have more than 600 members of the 2004-2005 Leadership Giving and Alexis de Tocqueville
Societies.
