United Way of Camden County works to advance the common good by creating opportunities for a better life for all.

Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do, we are all people. Connected, interdependent, United. When you reach out a hand to one—you are influencing the condition of all. That’s what it means to LIVE UNITED.

And unite we must. For thousands of Camden County residents, the basic ingredients for a good life are increasingly beyond reach. New Jersey is the second wealthiest state in America, but Camden City—our county seat—has been dubbed both the poorest and most dangerous city in the nation. One in 5 of our county’s children are living in poverty. Twenty percent of our high school students did not graduate in 2007. Ten percent of residents do not have health insurance, and many more are not receiving the basic services they need to maintain good health.

At United Way—we simply will not accept these conditions. Not in our backyard. We believe the building blocks for a good life are: education, income and health. Everyone needs a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family and good health. Our goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems.

It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future. So we bring together people from all across the community–government, business, faith groups, nonprofits, the labor movement, ordinary citizens–to tackle the issues. Because we all win when a child succeeds in school, when a family becomes financially stable, and when people have good health.
