HOW TO APPY FOR UNITED WAY FUNDING
Who is eligible for United Way of Camden County funding?
Applicants must be 501 (c) (3) organizations to be eligible for United Way of Camden County funding. United Way does not support any agencies that do not adhere to federal government non-discriminating policies and practices. Agencies requesting funds must have an established accounting system that is audited annually. Applicant programs must have been in existence for at least 2 years prior to the upcoming funding cycle.
What kind of non-profit programming does United Way of Camden County invest in?
We have three investment areas that we believe are the building blocks for a good life:
Education: United Way is helping children achieve their potential though education. It is our goal that at-risk youth are academically successful, substance free, law abiding and avoiding early parenthood.
Income: United Way is helping families become financially independent. We want Camden County residents to be economically self-sufficient by achieving work readiness, long-term employment, financial literacy, established credit, and a bank account.
Health: United Way of Camden County is improving people’s health by providing core community needs. We work to ensure people of all ages and income levels have the opportunity to acquire and maintain basic needs services to ensure good physical and mental health.
When can I apply for United Way dollars?
United Way investments in Education, Income and Health are granted for a three year cycle. Each grant will be re-approved annually depending on United Way’s finances and each program’s achievements. The next grant cycle will be in the Health area and announced in March 2010.
Upcoming funding cycles are:
Education: July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2014
Income: July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2014
Health: July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2013
How do I get an application?
Contact United Way at 856-963-2720 to be placed on the mailing list for funding announcements and applications.
What is the Strategic Initiative Fund?
The Fund’s purpose is threefold: to meet one-time emergency needs in the Camden County Community on a timely basis, to fund initiatives related to UWCC’s strategic promises outside the normal schedule of volunteer investment decisions and to allow UWCC to form strategic alliances and partnerships. Agencies are encouraged to submit a 1-2 page narrative outlining a new or enhanced program. Agencies will be contacted if they are being considered for a grant.
Can I make an emergency funding request?
Emergencies are considered situations where an organization is unable to continue serving its clients as a result of an unexpected occurrence. For example– a boiler explosion, roof collapse, etc. Agencies will be required to submit estimates of the emergency work to be completed. Emergency funding is not available to help supplement other funding sources. Agencies may contact Krista Briglia at 856.963.2720 ext. 22 or at kbriglia@uwccnj.org in the event of an emergency.
What is the Management Assistance Program (MAP) and do I need to apply for it?
The MAP administered by the Community and Planning Advocacy Council (CPAC) is a tool that helps evaluate your organization’s administrative capacity. Nonprofit agencies applying for United Way funding must receive a score of 75% or above to be eligible. For more information on how you can apply for the MAP program, go to www.cpachvi.org.
