United Way of Camden County Volunteer Opportunities
United Way of Camden County Community Impact Councils
United Way of Camden County Community Impact Councils work towards making a sustained community change within the issue areas
that affect the people who live and work in Camden County. Council members work together representing both the Camden County
community and United Way donors to identify the most appropriate uses for United Way donor dollars. Volunteers are an integral
part of the work that is done at United Way as they have the opportunity to be a part of making Camden County a better place to live
and work.
Impact Council volunteers are given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the issues that affect Camden County. Volunteers
are engaged in ways that will give them the opportunity to get to know the nonprofit health and human service organizations within
the area working towards community impact. They will have the ability to be a part of the application review process which is the
process that identifies which programs United Way dollars can be most effective. Volunteers will continue to monitor these programs
in order to be sure that funds are being used appropriately to make an impact within the issue area. All volunteers will have the
support and guidance of United Way staff throughout their time with the organization. United Way volunteers have a voice in this
community and are given the opportunity to share their voice in a proactive way that will help to create a healthier and happier
Camden County.
Currently United Way is working towards making an impact within three specified issue areas identified as follows:
At-Risk Youth Council: Helping Camden County at-risk youth aged 7-18 become academically successful, substance-free, law-abiding
and avoid early parenthood.
Economic Self-Sufficiency Council: Helping Camden County residents who are not economically self-sufficient become self-sufficient
by achieving work readiness, long-term employment, financial literacy, establishing credit, a bank account and adequate housing.
Core Community Needs Council: Addressing health and human services provided by UWCC partner agencies with a focus on basic needs:
including emergency services, food, clothing, shelter, childcare, healthcare, mental health services, substance abuse services,
hospice services, services for the disabled, scouting, mentoring, disaster relief, crisis hotline and information and referral.
United Way volunteers will be asked to be a part of this investment process on a once a month basis though there may be times where a
commitment of more than once a month will be requested. All volunteers will be offered a schedule in advance of their service with
UWCC.
